Un demi-siècle après la vague des indépendances de 1960, l’année 2010 a marqué, pour de nombreux pays d’Afrique, le cinquantenaire de leur accession à la souveraineté et a été jalonné de multiples célébrations. Cet ouvrage se propose de faire revivre ce moment clé des indépendances, à travers une série d’analyses témoignant du moment de l’indépendance, de la diversité des réactions qu’il a générées et du souvenir que les Africains ont construit ou conservé de ces journées de fête – ou de doute – jusqu’au jubilé de 2010. À partir d’un questionnement renouvelé, les contributions mettent à jour l’extrême diversité des perceptions et des vécus qui coexistent et la complexité jamais démentie du rapport entretenu à cet événement fondateur. Colère et joie se sont mêlées à Tananarive et au Cameroun, fierté et déception ont été perceptibles à Lomé et Dakar. Des fêtes officielles parfois convenues aux bals où l’on a dansé « jusqu’à fatigué », les sociétés africaines ont tenté de s’approprier le moment « indépendance » en faisant parfois entendre des voix discordantes, notamment celles des « vaincus » des luttes politiques de la décolonisation (radicaux ou modérés) ou celles plus discrètes des mondes populaires ruraux et urbains, à la recherche d’une émancipation réelle et non formelle.

Paradoxes de l'histoire mexicaine, le même pays qui a connu, à partir de 1910, la première révolution du XXe siècle, possède depuis cinquante ans l'un des régimes les plus stables du monde. Le même phénomène s'était déjà produit au XIXe siècle : à soixante-cinq ans d'insurrections, de guerres civiles et de pronunciamientos avait succédé un régime des plus stables et des plus modernisateurs : celui du général Porfirio Díaz (1876-1911) Dépassant les approches habituelles, F.-X. Guerra place le cas mexicain dans le cadre plus général du passage des sociétés traditionnelles - ou d'Ancien Régime - à la modernité. Le Mexique contemporain apparaît alors comme un champ privilégié pour observer les traumatismes que d'élites participant aux mutations culturelles de l'Europe. L'analyse du cas mexicain aboutit ainsi à la construction d'un modèle explicatif qui éclaire l'évolution du monde contemporain non européen. Et qui, par la même, jette un regard nouveau sur bien des aspects de l'histoire européenne du XIXe siècle. Ce premier volume analyse et réinterprète la période de troubles du XIXe siècle et le régime de compromis qu'est la dictature de Porfirio Diaz.

This Chaillot Paper examines recent domestic developments in the Islamic Republic of Iran. The volume presents an in-depth assessment of the farreaching changes that the Iranian state and Iranian society have undergone since the 1979 revolution, with a particular focus on the social and political turmoil of the past five years. It is clear that in many ways the Islamic Republic is in the throes of a transition where many of its fundamental tenets are being called into question. Profound and ongoing internal transformations in Iranian society already affect the country’s foreign policy posture, as some of its domestic and external issues converge and will most likely continue to do so. Pertinent examples are the nuclear issue and the socio-political upheaval in neighbouring Arab countries. Edited by Rouzbeh Parsi, the volume features contributions from five authors who are all specialists in various aspects of Iranian politics and society.
